“I thought it would be fine as long as I didn’t eat sushi”… Shock at cesium detected in Japanese peanuts

Cesium Detected in Processed Peanut Products from Japan, Import Cancelled

According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) on the 25th, during radiation testing conducted on imported food from Japan between the 18th and 24th, cesium was found in a product called "Kurikinton" at a level of 1 Bq/kg.

This is a unit for measuring the intensity of radiation. Although it does not reach the food safety standard of 100 Bq/kg, it is still a notable result.

The MFDS requires that if any radiation is detected, a certificate of inspection for additional radionuclides such as strontium must be submitted.

However, most importers are choosing to cancel imports or return and dispose of the products rather than following these procedures. In this case, the importer of the affected product voluntarily withdrew the import of the product in which cesium was detected.
