ㅣ Instructor of After-School Class Sentenced to Imprisonment for Sexual Assault Charges
An instructor accused of sexually assaulting elementary school students during after-school hours has been sentenced to imprisonment.
On the 24th, the 1st Criminal Division of the Gwangju High Court Jeonju Branch (Chief Judge Yang Jin-soo) upheld the original ruling, sentencing A, a man in his 30s, to six years in prison after dismissing both the prosecution and the defendant's appeals for the violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (indecent acts against minors under 13).

A, who worked as an after-school instructor at an elementary school in North Jeolla Province, was indicted for sexually assaulting eight female students by touching their bodies from March 2021 to November 2023.
In court, A sought a reduced sentence through a criminal settlement, but the parents of the victims clearly stated they would not accept the settlement and petitioned the court for severe punishment.

The appellate court pointed out, "The target of the defendant's crimes is elementary school students who are unable to protect themselves," and stated, "The defendant committed crimes against multiple victims over a long period, which greatly aggravates the nature of his offenses."
Furthermore, the court dismissed the appeal, stating, "Although the defendant is a first-time offender and has made a criminal settlement, considering that the parents are expressing their desire for severe punishment by submitting a consent form to reclaim the settlement money, there cannot be considered any new changes in circumstances since the original ruling."
