People Power Party’s Lee Cheol-kyu’s son arrested for ‘marijuana charges’, “concern over flight”… daughter-in-law also ‘positive’

National Assembly Member's Son Arrested on Drug Charges

Lee Mo, the son of People Power Party member Lee Cheol-kyu, has been arrested by the police on drug use charges.

On the 23rd, the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Lee on charges of marijuana under the Drug Control Act, stating that "there is a concern he might flee." The court also issued a warrant for Person A, who is accused of selling drugs to Lee, for the same reason.

Lee is suspected of attempting to find liquid marijuana buried in a flower bed in a residential area in Seocho-gu, Seoul, using the so-called "throwing" method last October. The "throwing" method is where drug dealers hide drugs in a predetermined location, and the buyer goes to retrieve them, allowing the transaction to occur without a direct face-to-face meeting.

At the time of the incident, Lee was reportedly in a rental car with two individuals, including his spouse, Person B.

Based on the precise appraisal results from the National Forensic Service (NFS), which indicated a positive reaction for marijuana in Lee's hair, the police applied for his arrest warrant.

Meanwhile, the Seocho Police Station announced that they had requested a drug test for Person B, the daughter-in-law of the assembly member, under the Drug Control Act. The results from the National Forensic Service revealed a positive test for marijuana.

However, the police deemed the evidence against Person B to be weak and did not apply for an arrest warrant.
