Incheon International Airport Customs Official Arrested on Charges of Embezzling Customs Refunds

A public official at Incheon International Airport Customs has been arrested on charges of embezzling customs refunds during the return process of overseas direct purchases.

The Incheon International Airport Police Agency announced that they have arrested individual A on charges of fraud and have handed the case over to the prosecution.

Individual A is accused of misappropriating over 100 million won in customs refunds that should have been returned to buyers who purchased goods through overseas direct purchasing and returned them.

This case came to light after Incheon International Airport Customs identified A's wrongdoing during an internal audit and reported it to the police.

As a result of this incident, Incheon International Airport Customs has decided to thoroughly review the customs refund processing procedures and strengthen the system for preventing recurrence and the monitoring framework.
