A 40-Year-Old Man Wearing an Electronic Bracelet Sentenced to 12 Years for Sexual Assault and Abuse of Stepdaughter
The prosecution has requested a 12-year prison sentence for a 40-year-old man who sexually assaulted and abused his stepdaughter while wearing an electronic bracelet.
According to the legal community on the 22nd, during the sentencing hearing for Mr. A, who is charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (forced molestation due to family relationship), the Chuncheon District Court’s 2nd Criminal Division has sought a lengthy sentence.

The prosecution stated the reason for the sentence request was that "there is a risk of reoffending as he committed sexual violence against a person under the age of 19." They also requested that the court impose an electronic monitoring device for ten years.
In response, the defendant's lawyer appealed for leniency, stating, "The defendant deeply regrets and reflects on this crime," and asked the court to consider that the victim and her mother do not wish for the defendant to be punished.
It has been confirmed that Mr. A submitted a letter of reflection four times during the trial.
A Pattern of Crimes Against His Stepdaughter
Mr. A is accused of physically abusing his stepdaughter, Ms. B, in early February of this year, and of molesting her twice in late January and late February. Notably, the fact that he was already wearing an electronic surveillance device at the time of the offenses adds to the shock of the case.
A review of Mr. A's criminal history reveals that he has a record of multiple sexual offenses in the past.
In 2004, he was sentenced to four years in prison for special rape and other charges in Chuncheon District Court and was paroled in May 2008 while serving his sentence.
Subsequently, in 2009, he received a two-year sentence for the crime of vehicle flight, and just about a month after his release in June 2011, he committed another sexual offense of special rape.
At that time, the Gangneung Branch Court stated, "The defendant, having a history of sexual violence crimes, committed this offense just about a month after the end of his sentence, indicating a significantly poor quality of crime," but took into account that the victim of the special rape did not wish for punishment against the defendant, resulting in a seven-year sentence.
