A tragic accident occurred as a man in his 30s fell from the Jeoseok Mountain Cloud Bridge in the Nam-gu district of Gwangju.

On the morning of the 21st, the Gwangju Nambu Police reported that a 33-year-old man identified as A fell 37 meters to the roadway below at approximately 5:14 AM.

The Jeoseok Mountain Cloud Bridge, which was installed in 1999 to connect the ridges of Bongseon-dong and Jinwol-dong, has safety facilities in place; however, accidents involving falls continue to occur.

Just over two months ago, on February 9, a man in his 40s, identified as B, also fell after crossing the safety barriers at the same location.

Since 2017, a total of 7 individuals have died after falling from the Jeoseok Mountain Cloud Bridge up until this date.

Due to the series of fatal accidents, local authorities have increased the height of the safety barriers from 1.2 meters to 2 meters, although this height can still be easily crossed.

In response, the Nam-gu district plans to allocate a budget of 100 million won to install nets below the cloud bridge by June.

A representative from Nam-gu stated, "We will ensure that if residents fall, they will get caught in the net, preventing fatal accidents," adding that discussions are also ongoing regarding enclosing the cloud bridge in a transparent cylindrical structure.
