A 30-year-old man in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, was discovered to be driving while severely intoxicated, at a level that could lead to license revocation, and attempted to flee from police. He was ultimately captured while hiding in a trash can.

According to reports from JTBC and others on the 21st, around 12:50 AM that day, the Yangju Police arrested the man on-site for violating the Road Traffic Act related to drunk driving.

The man is suspected of driving his vehicle while under the influence on a road in Okjeong-dong, Yangju City. After receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle suspected of drunk driving, police responded and located the man, who ignored their demand to exit the vehicle and attempted to escape.

During the pursuit, police requested him to stop twice, but he fled at approximately 180 km/h, running traffic signals. During this process, accidents occurred that damaged a nearby apartment's barrier and two parked cars. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the property damage was significant.

After a thorough search, police discovered the man hiding in the basement fire protection equipment room of an apartment complex and arrested him. At the time of his arrest, he was found concealing himself in a trash can. His blood alcohol concentration was confirmed to be over 0.08%, which is the threshold for license revocation.

Investigations revealed that the man has a criminal history with 22 prior offenses. The fact that he committed drunk driving again despite this record has caused significant shock to society.
