The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is waking up once again. It is led by director Jang Jae-hyun and several current directors.
On the 18th, the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival announced, "The representative genre short film festival of South Korea is returning. It will meet audiences at the 21st festival this second half of the year."
The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is the only genre-oriented short film festival in the country. Established in 2002, it marks its 21st anniversary this year. It took a brief break after 2021.
It returns about four years after its 'farewell' to the audience, and aims to discover new directors following in the footsteps of renowned directors such as Kim Han-min (Miracle), Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), and Yoon Jong-bin (War on Crime).
Seven directors have formed the executive committee. This includes Jang Jae-hyun (The Cursed: Dead Man's Prey), Han Jun-hee (D.P.), Eom Tae-hwa (Concrete Utopia), Yoon Ga-eun (Our Body), and Lee Sang-geun (Exit).
They have gained opportunities for directorial debuts or started their careers through the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. They expressed, "We want to give back our benefits to emerging creators."
Beyond the festival, they aim to create a platform for exchange, establishing networking that connects creators with the industry, actors with producers, and investors with scriptwriters.
Meanwhile, this year's Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is organized by Cine21, with Naver as the main sponsor.
