The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is awakening once again. Directed by Jang Jae-hyun and led by several active filmmakers, the festival is gearing up for its return.

On the 18th, the festival announced, "The representative genre short film festival of the Republic of Korea is making a comeback. It will meet the audience during the second half of this year at the 21st edition of the festival."

The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is the only genre short film festival in the country. Established in 2002, this year marks its 21st edition. It took a short break after the 2021 event.

After being away from the audience for about four years, it is returning to discover new directors following in the footsteps of Kim Han-min (Miracle), Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), and Yoon Jong-bin (The Drug King).

Seven directors have formed the executive body. Jang Jae-hyun (The Cursed), Han Jun-hee (D.P.), Uhm Tae-hwa (Concrete Utopia), Yoon Ga-eun (Our Wonderland), and Lee Sang-keun (Exit) are collaborating for this festival.

These directors gained their debut opportunities or started their careers through the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. "We want to give back the benefits we received to emerging creators," they stated.

Beyond the film festival, they aim to create a space for interaction. Plans are underway to facilitate networking that connects creators with the industry, actors with producers, and investors with screenwriters.

Meanwhile, this year’s Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is organized by Cine21, and Naver is the main sponsor.
