The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is once again awakening. Directed by Jang Jae-hyun and various current directors, it is set to return.
On the 18th, the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival announced, "The representative genre short film festival of the Republic of Korea is making a comeback. It will meet audiences in the second half of this year for its 21st edition."
The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is the only genre short film festival in the country. Established in 2002, it marks its 21st year this year. It took a brief hiatus after 2021.
After about four years since "saying goodbye" to the audience, it returns. The festival aims to discover new directors following in the footsteps of Kim Han-min (The Admiral: Roaring Currents), Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), and Yoon Jong-bin (The Drug King).
Seven directors have formed the executive committee, including Jang Jae-hyun (The Cursed Lesson), Han Jun-hee (D.P.), Eom Tae-hwa (Concrete Utopia), Yoon Ga-eun (Our Bodies), and Lee Sang-geun (Exit).
They have all gained opportunities to debut as directors or began their careers through the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. "We want to give our benefits back to emerging creators," they stated.
Beyond the festival, they plan to create a platform for exchange. Networking opportunities will be established to connect creators with the industry, actors with producers, and investors with screenwriters.
Meanwhile, this year's Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is organized by Cine21, with main sponsorship from Naver.
