The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is once again coming to life. It is led by director Jang Jae-hyun and several current directors.
On the 18th, the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival announced, "The representative genre short film festival of the Republic of Korea is making a comeback. It will meet audiences this second half of the year with the 21st edition of the festival."
The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is the only genre short film festival in the country. Established in 2002, it marks its 21st edition this year. It took a temporary break after 2021.
After roughly 4 years since saying "goodbye" to audiences, it is returning. It aims to discover new directors, following the footsteps of established filmmakers like Kim Han-min (The Admiral: Roaring Currents), Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), and Yoon Jong-bin (The Unjust).
Seven directors have formed the executive committee. Jang Jae-hyun (The Cursed: Dead Man's Prey), Han Jun-hee (D.P.), Eom Tae-hwa (Concrete Utopia), Yoon Ga-eun (Our Body), and Lee Sang-geun (Exit) are among those collaborating.
They have gained opportunities to debut as directors or to start their careers through the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. "We want to give back our benefits to emerging creators," they stated.
Beyond the film festival, they aim to create a space for exchange. Networking opportunities will be planned to connect creators with the industry, actors with producers, and investors with screenwriters.
Meanwhile, this year’s Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is organized by Cine21, with Naver as the main sponsor.
