The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is stretching its legs once again. It is led by several current directors, including director Jang Jae-hyun.
On the 18th, the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival announced, "The representative genre short film festival of the Republic of Korea is returning. It will meet the audience in the second half of this year for its 21st edition."
The Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is the only genre short film festival in the country, having been established in 2002 and marking its 21st anniversary this year. It took a brief hiatus after its conclusion in 2021.
After approximately four years since its "farewell" with the audience, the festival returns. It will discover new directors following in the footsteps of Kim Han-min (The Admiral: Roaring Currents), Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), and Yoon Jong-bin (The Drug King).
Seven directors have formed the executive committee: Jang Jae-hyun (The Cursed: Dead Man's Prey), Han Jun-hee (D.P.), Uhm Tae-hwa (Concrete Utopia), Yoon Ga-eun (Our School's E.T.), Lee Sang-geun (EXIT), among others.
These directors have either debuted or launched their careers through the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. They stated, "We want to give back the benefits we received to emerging creators."
Beyond the festival, they are creating a platform for exchange. Plans are underway to establish networking opportunities connecting creators and the industry, actors and producers, as well as investors and screenwriters.
Meanwhile, this year's Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival is organized by Cine21, with Naver as the main sponsor.
