“Should I buy you a drink, mister?”… Suspected incidents of ‘enticing elementary school students’ occurring one after another in Gangnam

Attempts to Lure Elementary School Students Near Gangnam, Seoul

Suspicious incidents targeting elementary students have occurred consecutively near two elementary schools in Gangnam, Seoul, prompting police to launch an investigation.

On the 16th, the Suseo Police Station reported that at approximately 12:30 PM, an elderly man approached a second-grade male student leaving A Elementary School in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam.

The elderly man grabbed the student's backpack strap and attempted to pull him away while saying, "It's mine." However, the student managed to break free and ran away. Following the report, the police are tracking the suspect through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

After the incident, A Elementary School sent an official request for cooperation to the Suseo Police Station and the Gangnam District Office and conducted safety education in each classroom. Additionally, the school sent out a notice to parents, urging them to maintain ongoing interest and guidance regarding their children's transportation safety and how to handle encounters with strangers.

Later that afternoon, around 6 PM, a report was received stating that two men attempted to kidnap a second-grade male student near B Elementary School in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam, while he was on his way home. These men approached the student, saying, "Uncle, do you want me to buy you a drink?" However, the student reportedly declined, saying, "No, I'm fine. I don't want it."

Currently, B Elementary School has requested increased police patrols and has conducted prevention education against abductions in each classroom. The school plans to secure CCTV footage from the police and the district office to distribute a composite sketch. The police are tracking the suspects based on witness statements and CCTV footage.
