The movie “Exhuma” (directed by Jang Jae-hyun) is experiencing a phenomenal box office success, having surpassed 6 million viewers.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network, “Exhuma” had exceeded a cumulative audience of 6,033,190 by the 3rd. During the three-day holiday of March 1st, it attracted over 2.3 million viewers, continuing its box office dominance.
It swept the holiday box office. On March 1st, it reached 4 million, and on the 2nd, it surpassed 5 million, attracting a total of 2,335,931 viewers, exceeding the first weekend’s score of 1,965,321.
It sold over 6 million tickets just 11 days after its release. This is a day faster than the ten-million-viewer film “The Outlaws 2.” It also achieved this milestone a week faster than last year’s biggest hit, “The Spring of Seoul.”
The Korean-style occult has captivated domestic audiences. The film, which features elements such as shamanistic beliefs and geomancy, and stellar performances by actors like Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, Ryu Hae-jin, and Lee Do-hyun, has received widespread acclaim. A long-term box office success is anticipated.
The “Exhuma” team penned handwritten thank-you messages. In particular, director Jang Jae-hyun set a personal box office record with this film, surpassing the score of his previous work, “The Priests” (5.44 million viewers).
Director Jang wrote, “Exhuma has surpassed 6 million viewers! I sincerely thank all the viewers,” and added, “I will work hard and quickly on the screenplay.” Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, Ryu Hae-jin, Kim Jae-cheol, and others also expressed their gratitude.
