Famous Singer's Personal Life Photo Blackmail Case, Perpetrators Indicted

A group of individuals who attempted to extort hundreds of millions of won by threatening to distribute private photos after obtaining a famous singer's mobile phone has been indicted.

According to the legal community on the 17th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office has arrested and indicted Mr. Hong on charges of violating the Punishment of Violent Acts Act.

Mr. Hong is accused of having accidentally acquired a mobile phone previously used by the singer and, along with two accomplices, demanding 500 million won in cash while threatening to distribute personal information and private photos.

It is reported that they managed to extort around 100 million won from the famous singer.

The police began their investigation following a report from the singer's agency, apprehending Mr. Hong in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, on the 17th of last month. The prosecutor's office arrested and indicted Mr. Hong after further investigation. Another accomplice, Mr. Kwon, who was already in custody for a different case, has also been indicted.

The prosecutor's office has requested the police to conduct further investigations regarding another accomplice, Mr. A, as they found it necessary to confirm the facts. It has been reported that one member of the group stated during the investigation that he had previously lived as a member of a notorious organized crime group.
