Fearless rookie police officer… ‘Outburst’ leads to suspension and subsequent ‘unexpected behavior’

"Are you following me?" He argued with customers… and clashed with passersby.

Before even wearing a police uniform, a rookie police officer threatened citizens and ended up getting arrested after causing trouble twice at the same location. The individual involved is Officer A from the Jin-hae Police Station in Gyeongnam, who had just graduated from the National Police University.

He caused a disturbance at an entertainment bar in Changwon just a day after his graduation and was taken into custody by the police.

According to the police on the 15th, the incident occurred on the night of the 12th at a karaoke pub in Changwon, Gyeongnam. Officers who arrived at the scene arrested a man inside the pub and brought him outside, where he yelled at passersby and provoked them.

A witness at the scene stated, "He was swearing at people passing by and was provoking them, saying, 'Who are you, are you a thug?'" The man eventually was taken into a patrol car after causing a ruckus for about 30 minutes.

According to the police, Officer A, who was drunk at the bar, threatened a customer at a nearby table, claiming that "an employee from the information department is following him." He also verbally abused a staff member who tried to intervene, which led to his arrest on the spot.

A Serious Misconduct: Similar Incident Just Six Days Prior

The more significant issue is that this incident is not an isolated one. Officer A had already been in trouble at the same location just six days earlier, on the morning of the 6th, where he caused another disturbance and was reported to the police.

At that time, he had an altercation with a female customer in the restroom and was investigated for intimidation. Although he was immediately suspended from his position due to this incident, he repeated similar behavior at the same pub just six days later.

A police official stated, "He was also intoxicated at that time, and the victim expressed significant anxiety."

During his time at the police academy, Officer A had reportedly been problematic due to using profanities and verbal abuse in a KakaoTalk group chat with his peers. Nonetheless, the hiring process continued smoothly, leading to this alarming situation where he threatened citizens.

Currently, Officer A has been urgently hospitalized in a mental health facility. In light of this incident, there are growing calls for urgent improvements in self-regulation within the police organization, as well as enhancements in hiring and training processes.
