Lee Jae-myung, the prospective candidate, fills sponsorship fund limit in just one day
Former representative Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party has filled the legal limit of 2.94 billion Korean won in his sponsorship account just one day after it was established.
On the 16th, the camp for the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung announced that his fundraising efforts had reached the legal limit within a day.
The candidate's sponsorship committee started fundraising at 10 a.m. the previous day. More than 63,000 people participated in the sponsorship, with 99% of the contributions recorded as small donations of less than 100,000 won, according to the camp.
The sponsorship committee explained, "Filling the limit immediately with numerous small donations reflects the passionate wishes of the people who long for the end of the internal strife and a new Republic of Korea," and added, "Due to the influx of donations, some exceeded the limit, and we plan to refund those excess contributions."
On this day, the candidate expressed his gratitude through Facebook, stating, "Comrades (同志). This refers to people who share the same purpose or intention. I really like this term. In just one day, we've filled the fundraising amount. I bow my head in thanks to the more than 63,000 comrades who united in purpose."
He continued, "As always, the proportion of small donations is overwhelming. The earnestness of each individual longing for a new nation weighs heavily on my heart. Knowing the burdens of life that you must endure day by day, I am always cautious when requesting support." He added, "'Let’s make it comfortable for us while Lee Jae-myung takes on the hardship,' I deeply reflect on the words shared in the certification posts."
The candidate emphasized, "As I have always done, I will lead by taking on the wounds and responsibilities and paving a new path. I will always be close to the people. From now on, together with the great people, I will create a true Republic of Korea."
