'Seoul Run Members' 782 Students Admitted to Universities This Year… Hope Shown in the Age of 30 Trillion Won in Private Education Costs
A remarkable achievement has been made as 782 entrance exam candidates who received assistance from Seoul's free online education platform 'Seoul Run' were admitted to universities.
The city provides online learning content in subjects such as curriculum, extracurricular activities, and public links through 'Seoul Run' to help youths with limited access to learning resources.
According to the city of Seoul on the 26th of last month, among the 1,154 'Seoul Run' members who took the College Scholastic Ability Test this year, 67.8%, or 782, became freshmen in the Class of 2025.
Among these, 158 students (20%) reportedly studied solely using 'Seoul Run' without any private education.

Last year, the percentage of households among 'Seoul Run' users that reduced spending on private education increased from 42.1% to 52.4%, and the average monthly savings in private education costs for these households also increased from 256,000 won to 347,000 won.
With the effectiveness of reducing private education costs confirmed, 'Seoul Run', which was introduced in December 2021 with around 9,000 members, currently has over 33,000 members.
One student, who got admitted to the nursing department at Seoul National University after repeating a year, shared, "After my parents divorced and my mother was diagnosed with cancer, it was hard to focus, but after encountering 'Seoul Run', I dreamed of becoming a nurse who cares for and treats people suffering like my mom."

Mr. Kim, who receives basic living security, stated, "I wasn't in a situation to attend an academy like other friends," and added, "Since 'Seoul Run' started in 2021, I diligently utilized all support provided, including online lectures, textbook coupons, and college counseling, and I was accepted to the three universities I applied to this year."
Jung Jin-woo, the Director of the Seoul Lifelong Education Bureau, said, "In the face of the growing burden of private education costs, we have confirmed that 'Seoul Run' serves as a practical alternative and hope."
He continued, "In the future, we will strengthen AI-based education, personalized mentoring, and scholarship programs to support more youths and young adults in achieving their dreams without the burden of private education."
