US Grants 90-Day Suspension of Reciprocal Tariffs, Excluding China
President Donald Trump announced that reciprocal tariffs, effective from 12:01 AM local time on the 9th, will be suspended for 90 days, with only a basic tariff of 10% applied.
However, regarding China's retaliatory tariffs, Trump stated that an additional tariff would be imposed, raising the total to 125%.
On that day, President Trump declared on his social media platform Truth Social that "based on China's lack of respect shown to the global market, the tariffs imposed by the United States on China will be immediately increased to 125%."

Earlier, President Trump had imposed two 10% tariffs on China, citing the infiltration of fentanyl, along with an additional 34% tariff as part of the reciprocal tariff arrangement.
As China announced its plan for retaliatory tariffs, an additional 50% was added, bringing the total tariff to 104% starting that day.
When China did not back down and announced further retaliatory tariffs, President Trump indicated that he would impose retaliatory tariffs once again, bringing the total to 125%.

On that day, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent commented on the series of events, stating, "This was his (Trump's) strategy from the beginning, and one could even say that the president has pushed China into a disadvantageous position."
President Trump intensified his criticism, saying, "I hope that at some point in the near future, China realizes that the exploitation of the United States and other countries is no longer sustainable or acceptable."
