Singer-songwriter Olivia Marsh has admitted to plagiarism. She quickly reached a settlement with the original creator.
Her agency, Amplify, released a statement on the night of the 24th. It addressed the plagiarism controversy surrounding 'Backseat.' Previously, there were comments about its similarities to American singer Isaac Dunbar's 'Onion Boy.'
Isaac Dunbar also spoke out. He recently claimed on social media that "a song I wrote in my bedroom in 2019 was stolen." Amplify acknowledged the similarities between the two songs, stating, "Isaac Dunbar's claim has merit."
They acted swiftly to resolve the issue. "We have amicably settled with Isaac Dunbar," they stated, adding, "We are working on all necessary procedures to ensure the original creator's rights, including the negotiation of song credits and registration."
They also promised to review their systems. "We will take this incident as a lesson to ensure it doesn't happen again," they concluded, "and we apologize to Isaac Dunbar and any disappointed fans."
Meanwhile, Olivia Marsh is a singer-songwriter who debuted with her original song '42' in October last year. On the 13th, she released her first album, 'Meanwhile.' She is also known as the older sister of NewJeans member Danielle.
