Bong Joon-ho's new film takes the stage as a savior for Korean theaters. According to the integrated computer network for movie tickets by the Korean Film Council, "Mickey 17" (directed by Bong Joon-ho) recorded a reservation rate of 52.3% as of 1 PM on the 24th.
The film's box office prospects are looking bright. As of this day, 142,360 people have pre-booked tickets. It has topped the list among movies already released or about to be released.
"Mickey 17" is Bong Joon-ho's follow-up to "Parasite" (2019) after five years. It is an adaptation of Edward Ashton's novel "Mickey 7."
The story assumes the existence of human printing technology. It revolves around Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson) who faces his 17th death crisis when Mickey 18 is printed.
This film is a complete turn from conventional science fiction (SF) movies. It focuses on the somewhat lacking yet endearing Mickey, creating an SF piece with a human touch.
Robert Pattinson stars as the protagonist, Mickey. Naomi Ackie plays Mickey's girlfriend, Nasha. Mark Ruffalo delivers a compelling performance as the main villain for the first time.
Meanwhile, "Mickey 17" will be released domestically on the 28th.
