The movie 'Black Nuns' (directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae) has maintained its position as the top box office hit for three consecutive days since its release. According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets, 'Black Nuns' attracted 207,238 viewers on the 26th. Its cumulative audience reached 606,156 viewers. It has held the daily box office number one position for three consecutive days since its release on the 24th.
The reservation rate is also promising. As of 9:45 AM on the 27th, 'Black Nuns' is leading with 29.1% in reservation rates. Approximately 120,829 viewers have booked tickets. It has surpassed 'Hitman 2' (24.6%) and 'Secret You Can't Tell' (17.1%).
The international score is also high. In Indonesia, it garnered around 310,000 viewers in its first week of release. This marks the best opening performance for a Korean movie released in Indonesia. It also holds the number one spot for box office performance for three days post-release.
'Black Nuns' is a spin-off of 'The Priests' (2015). The movie depicts the struggles of people trying to save a boy (played by Moon Woo-jin) possessed by a powerful evil spirit.
Song Hye-kyo plays Sister Unia, showcasing dark charisma. She leaves a strong impression with her expressionless face, profanity, and smoking. Her portrayal of throwing everything to save a child is poignant.
Jeon Yeo-bin also delivered a solid performance. She plays Sister Michaela, who has childhood trauma, wielding tarot cards and tanghulu. Despite trembling with fear, she holds Song Hye-kyo's hand, expressing a desperate heart.
A unique aspect of this movie is its fresh take on the occult genre. It focuses more on the sublimity of salvation than the horror of exorcism. The collaboration of Catholicism, Korean shamanism, and Western astrology (tarot cards) is also unique.
Meanwhile, 'Hitman 2' took the second place in the daily box office chart. On the 26th, it attracted 198,884 viewers. Over the span of five days, from the 22nd to the 26th, it gathered a total of 604,887 viewers.
