Hollywood stars have stepped up to help victims of the wildfires in Los Angeles (LA), USA. Pop star Beyoncé announced on her charity foundation BeyGOOD’s Instagram on the 13th that she donated $2.5 million (approximately 3.67 billion KRW).
The foundation stated, “This fund will be delivered to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of families who lost their homes and others affected by the wildfires.” The targeted donation region was Altadena/Pasadena, which is one of the areas affected by the “Eaton Fire,” one of the two major wildfires in LA County. Many residents have become homeless due to the fire.
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is participating in relief efforts in the wildfire-affected areas. It is reported that her six children are also joining her. The British Daily Mail recently captured Jolie and her 16-year-old son Knox buying groceries and supplies for the victims at a store.
It was also reported that she is opening her home to friends who have lost their houses. Additionally, actors Sharon Stone and Halle Berry have donated clothes, shoes, and bags. Heiress Paris Hilton has initiated an emergency fundraising campaign for the victims.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis donated $1 million (approximately 1.47 billion KRW), and Eva Longoria donated $50,000 (approximately 73 million KRW). The Walt Disney Company is providing $15 million (approximately 22.04 billion KRW). Meanwhile, the extensive wildfire damage in LA continues.
According to the weather site AccuWeather, the damage from this fire is estimated to be between $135 billion (approximately 200 trillion KRW) and $150 billion (approximately 221 trillion KRW). So far, 16 people have died and 16 are missing. Around 12,000 buildings have been completely destroyed in the blaze, and 42,000 acres have been burned, which is about 28% of the area of Seoul.
