‘Nevertheless,’ Japanese Version Released… Tops Netflix at Launch

The drama ‘Nevertheless,’ has captured the Japanese archipelago. Following the Korean version, the remake is also enjoying high popularity. The remake of ‘Nevertheless,’ titled ‘Wakattaitemo’ (わかっていても, The shapes of love) was simultaneously released on Abema and Netflix on the 9th.

It received explosive responses, reaching the number 1 spot in the Abema drama rankings and topping the Netflix Japan Top 10 TV category (for the week of the 9th to the 15th). ‘Nevertheless,’ is a youth romance that aired on JTBC in 2021, starring Song Kang as Park Jae Eon and Han So Hee as Yoo Na Bi, showcasing a push-and-pull romance.

It particularly caused a syndrome in Japan, staying in Netflix Japan’s Top 10 for 13 weeks and entering the global chart for 7 consecutive weeks, achieving great success. Actor Ryusei Yokohama played the male lead. Director Ryutaro Nakagawa directed the series, with Michihito Fujii involved as the executive producer.

Set against the backdrop of Kamakura, Japan, it captured its unique sentimentality. Production company SLL predicted, “You will discover a charm that is distinct from the original.” Meanwhile, SLL is pursuing a joint production project with Japanese TV Asahi and TBS production company The Seven, among others.
