A donation campaign to uphold the value of independent films is ongoing. Actor Um Tae-goo and his fans have also participated. The DC Um Tae-goo Gallery engraved Um Tae-goo's nameplate on seats F4 and F5 of the independent film-exclusive cinema, Indie Space. They joined in supporting independent films with a donation of 4 million KRW for the "Sharing Seats."
Um Tae-goo has long-standing connections with independent films, having showcased his acting in various projects such as "INGtoogi" (2013) and "The King's Case Note" (2018). He has also met audiences directly through Indie Talk events at Indie Space.
The DC Um Tae-goo Gallery expressed their sentiment about the donation, saying, "We are sponsoring the 'Sharing Seats' to preserve the value of Indie Space together with actor Um Tae-goo. We hope that diverse stories can reach a wider audience."
To commemorate this donation, Indie Space is planning to organize a screening event featuring Um Tae-goo's works. The plan is to gather several of his independent films for this event.
Opened in 2007, Indie Space is the first privately-run theater in Korea dedicated to independent films. It showcases a wide array of Korean independent films through releases, special exhibitions, and screenings.
The "Sharing Seats" sponsorship involves engraving a name on a seat in Indie Space for donations of 2 million KRW or more. This funding method has been consistently in place since Indie Space's reopening in 2012.
