Netflix drama 'Squid Game' Season 2 (hereafter 'Squid Game 2', directed and written by Hwang Dong-hyuk) has been nominated for Best TV Drama Series at the Golden Globe Awards.
The Golden Globes announced the list of nominees for the 82nd awards ceremony on the 9th (local time). 'Squid Game 2' is nominated for the Best Television Series – Drama.
It will compete against Disney's FX's 'Shogun', Netflix's 'The Diplomat', Apple TV+'s 'Slow Horses', Prime Video's 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith', and Peacock's 'Day of the Jackal'.
'Squid Game 2' will be released on the 26th. It was nominated for the Golden Globe Awards before its official release. International media like 'The Hollywood Reporter' reported that "it's unusual for a series to be nominated before airing."
'Squid Game 2' depicts the intense showdown between Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who re-enters the game vowing revenge, and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun). It promises new games, new characters, and new narratives.
Previously, 'Squid Game' Season 1 received the Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series (Oh Young-soo) at the 79th Golden Globe Awards in 2022. It was also nominated for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor (Lee Jung-jae) but did not win those awards.
The film with the most nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards is 'Emilia Perez' (directed by Jacques Audiard), which received the Jury Prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival. It has been nominated in ten categories, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actress, and Best Foreign Language Film.
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 5th, next year, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, USA.
