The movie ‘Moana 2’ (directed by Dave Derrick Jr.) has topped the reservation rate chart. According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network for movie theater ticket sales, as of 10 AM on the 25th, ‘Moana 2’ had 109,788 pre-sales, accounting for a 34.7% reservation rate.

This is the highest overall, surpassing ‘Wicked’ (directed by Jon Chu), which was released on the 20th and had 51,951 reservations. It also surpassed previous animation hits, including ‘Elemental’ (7.24 million) and ‘Aladdin’ (12.8 million) in pre-sales during the same period.

The global success is also showing promise. According to the tally from ‘Fandango’, the largest reservation site in North America, it has achieved the highest reservation quantity among this year’s released animations. Notably, it exceeded the reservations of the all-time top animation ‘Inside Out 2’. ‘Inside Out 2’ previously grossed $1.68725 billion worldwide.

All eyes are on whether ‘Moana 2’ will surpass ‘Inside Out 2’. ‘Moana 2’ garnered 178 million cumulative views within one day of the teaser trailer release, overtaking ‘Inside Out 2’ (157 million) and ‘Frozen 2’ (116 million). It is expected to create a so-called “Moanapocalypse.”

Meanwhile, ‘Moana 2’ is the sequel released 8 years after the original. It tells the story of Moana and Maui reuniting and embarking on a journey beyond the dangerous sea. It is set to premiere on the 27th.
