'The Fiery Priest 2' (written by Park Jae-beom, directed by Park Bo-ram) started off on a good note. According to Nielsen Korea, episode 1 of 'The Fiery Priest 2' (aired on the 8th) recorded an average of 11.9% nationwide in terms of household ratings. The highest rating soared to 15.4%, making it the top program broadcasted that day.
The first episode began with a drug case. It depicted the story of Kim Hae-il (played by Kim Nam-gil), whose blood boiled with vengeance due to a drug case that erupted in Gudam District during its peaceful times, and the tale of the 'Gudamseus.'
Kim Hae-il rushed to the emergency room when Lee Sang Yeon (Moon Woo-jin), whom he had always cherished, suddenly collapsed during mass. The cause of Lee Sang Yeon's shock was addiction to Hephanil, a type of drug.
Kim Hae-il and Goo Dae-young (played by Kim Sung-kyun) took action. However, they were enraged when the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Drug Crime Division took over the case, and they found it suspicious when the news about the Gudam drug case was taken down the next day.
Kim Hae-il got a hint by listening to the name of the person Lee Sang Yeon called the day before he collapsed. Goo Dae-young also teamed up with Songsak (Ahn Chang-hwan) to search for evidence.
Kim Hae-il said, "It's the same as 5 years ago. It's because of people not doing what they should do," pledging to join forces with the Gudamseus members.
Using the concept of Kim Hae-il being a priest possessed by the spirit of death, the Gudamseus carried out a scenario play. They defeated the gang that led Lee Sang Yeon to addiction to Hephanil and identified the drug distributors in Gudam District.
'The Fiery Priest' returned after five years with its second season. In this season, Kim Hae-il heads to Busan. While working as a seminary teacher, he takes down the biggest drug cartel in the country.
Meanwhile, the second episode of 'The Fiery Priest 2' will be broadcast at 9:50 PM tonight.
