Star chef Yu Bibim confessed his past deeds. He apologized for running a store using unauthorized and expedient methods.
On the 1st, Yu Bibim uploaded a handwritten letter of reflection on Instagram. He began by saying, "I would like to confess my past mistakes with a regretful heart."
Yu Bibim revealed, "I have tried many businesses, from selling fruits to operating street vendors and beauty salons, but repeatedly failed. Since 2003, I ran a restaurant in an unauthorized location, got arrested, and received a suspended sentence."
He closed down his business for a year and then reopened it. "With a desperate need to make a living, I registered the business under my wife's name as a performance, exhibition, and Korean food experience venue, and ran it through expedient means until recently," he said.
Yu Bibim earnestly pleaded with public institutions and the Regulatory Reform Committee to "lift the regulations." He conveyed, "However, the wall was too high, so my intentions were never realized."
Nonetheless, he stated, "I am well aware that breaking the law cannot be justified for any reason. As someone who was an ordinary person suddenly in the spotlight, neither my wife nor I had a day of peace of mind."
Lastly, Yu Bibim apologized, "The past 20 years were spent for livelihood, but the next 20 years will be for the bibim culture of Korea."
He promised, "I will open the old Bibim Sori space, which I have devoted myself to for 20 years, as a free venue for bibim exhibitions and performances for everyone."
He continued, "At the Bibim Sori moved to Hanok Village, I will do my best using the best materials legitimately. I am sorry for causing great disappointment," he said.
Yu Bibim became famous for opening a store named 'Bibim Sori' in Jeonju. He gained attention for being sincere about bibimbap and gained popularity as 'Bibim King' on Netflix's 'Black and White Chef: Cooking Class War Season 1.'
He is scheduled to appear on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' on the 6th.
