Bong Joon-ho's new film 'Mickey 17' is gradually unveiling its mysteries. Warner Bros. Korea released a teaser poster for the film 'Mickey 17' (written and directed by Bong Joon-ho, MICKEY 17) on the 22nd. It wittily captures the film's core premise and the transformation of lead actor Robert Pattinson.
'Mickey 17' belongs to the sci-fi genre. 'Mickey' is an expendable who is deployed for dangerous tasks and is reprinted upon death. When he faces his 17th death crisis, 'Mickey 18' is printed, unfolding an unpredictable story.
The poster is dazzling. Behind 'Mickey 17' placed in the center, images of Mickey with numbers from 1 to 16 overlapped. These serial numbers evoked the feeling of a new model name for a manufactured good rather than a human.
The image integrates Mickey's narrative and setting from the film. In the film's setting, Mickey is reprinted with his physical information and memories intact when he dies. In short, he is an expendable entity.
An insider explained, "'Mickey 17' diverges from existing sci-fi films featuring clones and replicants. It showcases various deaths and new moments when different 'Mickeys' are printed."
Robert Pattinson's transformation is highly anticipated. He passionately performs as Mickey 17. Despite holding a job characterized by death and reprinting, he displays a naive and innocent expression, as though something essential is missing.
Mickey 18 is also a point of interest. Although not featured in the teaser poster, previous trailers hinted at a sharply contrasting personality to 'Mickey 17'. He exhibits an impetuous and unpredictable nature.
An insider pointed out, "Mickey 18 breaks the expendable's rule of being printed only after one 'Mickey' dies. He is printed with the same data but is a mutation, marking an inflection point."
'Mickey 17' is set to premiere worldwide in South Korea on January 28, 2025.
