“Author! I read it in the military”… V Congratulates Han Kang on Nobel Literature Prize

Novelist Han Kang (54) has become the first Korean writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Congratulations poured in, including from BTS members V and RM.

On the 10th, V shared an article about Han Kang's Nobel win on social media. "I read 'The Boy Is Coming' while in the military. Congratulations," he wrote. RM also congratulated Han with a crying face and hearts.

The congratulatory messages continued. Former announcer Seo Hyun-jin wrote, "Finally, author Han Kang! Huge congratulations. Please continue to write great pieces. From a longtime fan in a corner."

Former AOA member Seolhyun quoted a part of Han's 'The Boy Is Coming.' She highlighted the passage, "What is it to be human? What must we do to not become something other than human?"

Actor Kim Min-ha posted a photo and a line from Han Kang's novel 'No Goodbye.' "The Nobel Prize in Literature goes to Han Kang," she wrote, offering warm support and congratulations.

Singer Hynn was not to be left out. She is known for taking inspiration for her stage name (Hynn) from the line "Even if I'm tainted, I will offer only white" in Han Kang’s novel 'White.'

Hynn expressed, "Through the line from 'White,' I resolved to create music with a sincere and pure heart, despite life's upheavals and wounds, both as an individual and as a musician."

She continued, "I was truly delighted to hear the news of the Nobel Prize. I am even prouder knowing that with a Korean work, the author's unique perspective and insight touched the world."

Choi Hee remarked, "Amazing. My mother, who experienced the May 18th Democratic Movement firsthand, found it painful and difficult to turn the pages, taking three years to read 'The Boy Is Coming.' Congratulations."

Comedian Shin Jin-hwa marveled, "Impressive. This historic moment is overwhelming." Actor Ryu Deok-hwan uploaded, "Han Kang's novels have greatly influenced me. Congratulations."

Kim So-young commented, "K-pop, K-content, K-food, K-beauty. And now literature, which is extraordinary. To witness the blossoming of Korean culture in my lifetime is thrilling."

Actor Ryu Jun-yeol wrote, "Goosebumps." Along with others like Moon Ga-young, Kim Hye-soo, Shin So-yul, Ok Ja-yeon, and Super Junior's Yesung, they shared and celebrated Han Kang's Nobel Prize win.

Han Kang was born in 1970. Through works like 'The Vegetarian,' she has elevated the stature of Korean literature. She was the first Korean to win the international section of the prestigious Man Booker Prize in 2016.

The Swedish Academy announced on the 10th that Han Kang was selected as the winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature. She is the second Korean to win a Nobel Prize, following the late former President Kim Dae-jung in 2000.

Chairman Anders Olsson praised, "Han Kang has a unique perception of the connection between body and soul, the living and the dead. She is poetic and experimental, becoming an innovator of modern prose."

The Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to 121 people so far. Han Kang is the 18th female laureate. The literature prize comes with a prize of 11 million Swedish Krona (about 1.34 billion Korean Won), a medal, and a diploma.
