The winner of the Best Picture Award at the 2024 Buil Film Awards, the highlight of the ceremony, was "Revolver." It achieved a total of three awards. "Spring in Seoul" also took home three awards.
The 33rd Buil Film Awards were held on the afternoon of the 3rd at the Signiel Grand Ballroom in Haeundae-gu, Busan. Actors Kim Dong-wook and Go Ah-sung hosted the event.
The awards targeted the best films released in Korea from August 11 of the previous year to August 10 of this year. Awards were given in 16 categories.
The Best Picture Award went to director Oh Seung-wook's "Revolver." Han Jae-duk, CEO of Sanai Pictures, accepted the award. He expressed his gratitude by saying, "We have achieved three awards at the Buil Awards."
He continued, "I am grateful to director Oh Seung-wook who inspired me to want to create more. Above all, I am thankful to actress Jeon Do-yeon for making this film possible. It feels like Do-yeon is the one giving this award. I will strive to achieve a fourth award soon."
"Revolver" also won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Actress. Lim Ji-yeon said, "I came to the Buil Film Awards to receive the New Actress Award, and it took me 10 years to return. This movie gave me courage and tenacity."
She also expressed her respect for Jeon Do-yeon. "I was a student fan who wanted to be like the senior actress," she said, "I thought I succeeded when I acted while making eye contact with the senior actress. I will work harder, or even better," she vowed.
The Best Actor Award went to Jung Woo-sung for "Spring in Seoul." He said, "This is my first Buil Film Award since debuting. This award feels too heavy for me to hold alone. I thank Hwang Jung-min for making Lee Tae-shin shine."
He added, "While doing films, director Kim Sung-su has been my inseparable partner, and we were able to receive the audience's love together. It was a big reward for me. The Buil Award has made Lee Tae-shin more valuable."
"Spring in Seoul" also achieved three awards. Director Kim Sung-su won the Best Director Award. He said, "I received an award several years ago for 'Asura,' and it feels even better to receive one again. I will work harder to stand on this stage once more."
Lee Jun-hyuk won the Star of the Year Award. "When I was young, my ringtone was the dialogue from 'Beat.' It was an honor and gratitude to be called by director Kim Sung-su and to work with senior Jung Woo-sung. I’m thankful for receiving this award," he said with emotion.
The Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award, given to filmmakers with a challenging and progressive spirit, was awarded to director Jang Jae-hyun for "Exhumation." Due to overseas commitments, he conveyed his acceptance speech via video.
He stated, "I dedicate this valuable award to the staff and actors who worked with me," and emphasized, "True to the purpose of the award, I will continue with a challenging mindset, not losing my youthful spirit. I’ll return with a good project for my next work."
The Best Actress Award went to Kim Geum-soon for "Jeong-sun," surpassing notable nominees like Jeon Do-yeon, Kim Go-eun, Ra Mi-ran, and Jung Yu-mi. She stressed, "This is an honor for my family. I will perform every scene with more dedication."
The New Actor Awards were presented to Kim Young-sung from "Big Sleep" and Jung Soo-jung from "Cobweb." Kim Young-sung said, "My wife is also an actor and helped me by being my script partner while putting the kids to sleep. I’m here thanks to her. Thank you."
Jung Soo-jung said, "'Cobweb' was a gift-like project for me. I thank director Kim Ji-woon for giving me the opportunity to have a special experience through 'Cobweb.' I will show a more developed side in my next film," she promised.
Meanwhile, the Buil Film Awards, Korea's first film awards ceremony, began in 1958 and have continued for 17 years since their revival in 2008.
