Actor Kang Dong-won showcased intense charisma.
Netflix's movie "War, Chaos" released its main trailer on the 2nd. "War, Chaos" is set during the Japanese invasions of Korea, featuring the stories of "Jongrye" (played by Park Jung-min), the son of Joseon's top martial family, and "Cheonyeong" (played by Kang Dong-won), a servant.
In the chaotic era, the war breaks out. Jongrye and Cheonyeong's fates diverge. They meet again as top-secret warriors and militia leaders for Seonjo (played by Cha Seung-won), becoming enemies.
The main trailer begins with Seonjo's cold expression. He scoffs, "Whether a king or a servant, are they equal?" casting a look of contempt at those trying to break the social hierarchy.
Cheonyeong endures severe humiliation because he is of low birth. Jongrye steps up by using servants as stepping stones. Despite sharing a bond since childhood, it suggests that the gap between their social statuses cannot be bridged.
Seonjo flees, abandoning his people amidst the Japanese invasion. The people wail in despair, and Gyeongbokgung Palace is engulfed in flames.
Seven years after the war, Cheonyeong becomes a militia fighter. He believed the king's promise to grant him nobility if he proved his worth in battle. He is known as the "Sword God of Cheong."
However, he faces execution on charges of treason. He declares, "I cannot live like this," and fights with all his might. He also faces Genshin (played by Jung Sung-il), the vanguard of the Japanese forces wearing a goblin mask.
Jongrye, close to Seonjo, stops at nothing to kill those who oppose the king. After a private meeting with Cheonyeong, he cries out, "I loathe myself for once befriending this lowly man."
Cheonyeong's final line is resolute. "You made me a traitor, so I will fulfill your wish." He charges with his sword, creating an impressive ending.
Kang Dong-won's presence was overwhelming. His resolute expression and dazzling swordsmanship captured attention. Another dazzling historical action performance is expected, following "KUNDO: Age of the Rampant" (2014).
Cha Seung-won's performance was also impeccable. He brought Seonjo's sly character to life. Park Jung-min's solid acting in the historical genre also caught attention. Jin Seon-kyu and Jung Sung-il are expected to deliver a reliable synergy as well.
Meanwhile, "War, Chaos" has been selected as the opening film for the 29th Busan International Film Festival. It will be released on Netflix on the 11th.
