A tragic accident occurred near Sin-taein Station in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, where a 90-year-old man collided with a train. As a result of this accident, the elderly man ultimately lost his life.
According to the North Jeolla Fire Department and Jeongeup Police Station, the incident took place around 12:58 PM on the 12th, when the man, referred to as Mr. A, was hit by the ITX-Ma-eum train on the tracks near Sin-taein Station.

The CCTV footage secured by the police shows Mr. A walking along a curved section of the tracks. He attempted to avoid the oncoming train but was struck by the side of the train and fell.
Thanks to the rapid reporting by the station master of Sin-taein Station, the fire department was dispatched to the scene, and Mr. A, who was in cardiac arrest, was immediately transported to a hospital but ultimately passed away.
The accident occurred on a down-bound train traveling from Yongsan to Mokpo, which had 98 passengers on board at the time of the accident.
Fortunately, there were no injuries among the passengers. However, the train was able to resume operation only after 1 hour and 10 minutes, around 2:07 PM.
Suspected Elderly Dementia, Police Investigating Accident Circumstances

Initial police investigations reveal that Mr. A was living alone in a house near Sin-taein Station.
Considering Mr. A's walking pattern and advanced age, the police do not rule out the possibility that he may have been suffering from elderly dementia.
A police official stated, "It appears that Mr. A tried to avoid the train upon seeing it, but it was already too late," adding, "At this time, we assess that the possibility of an extreme choice is low, and we are conducting a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident."
