7-Year-Old Child Injured by Delivery Motorcycle at Crosswalk in Gangneung
In Gangneung, Gangwon Province, a delivery motorcycle, which ran a red light, struck a 7-year-old child crossing the crosswalk, resulting in serious injuries to the child.
What’s even more shocking is that the motorcycle driver did not take any appropriate actions or apologize after the accident, leading to the anger of the victim's family.
According to the police on the 7th, at approximately 2:23 PM on the 5th, A, a 7-year-old girl, was hit by the speeding delivery motorcycle while crossing the crosswalk at an intersection in Naegok-dong, Gangneung. She sustained serious injuries, including abrasions and fractures to her face, arms, and legs. At the time, A was on a trip to Gangneung with her family.
Immediately after the accident, A was rushed by a firefighting helicopter to a large hospital in Wonju, where she has successfully undergone surgery and is currently recovering.

Anger of the Victim's Family and the Irresponsibility of the Delivery Driver
In an interview with Yonhap News, A's parents explained, “We were in a hurry as the green light was about to change.” They added, “The motorcycle hit my child at a speed of approximately 40-50 km/h, and she got caught under the motorcycle.”
They continued, “It seems the motorcycle driver did not see my daughter who was following behind me as he rushed past, saying something like 'Hurry and cross as the signal will change soon.'”
The victim's family expressed their frustration, saying, “It’s infuriating to think back on how he was just smoking a cigarette without taking any action after the accident.”
More concerning is the fact that the delivery driver, B, in his 20s, has not made any apologies or contact since the incident.

Insurance Issues Causing Additional Hardship for the Victim's Family
The insurance situation has also been adding to the victim's family's difficulties. B is only insured with liability insurance that covers a maximum of 500,000 KRW.
A is still hospitalized, and while the exact medical costs have not yet been calculated, any amount exceeding 500,000 KRW will have to be covered by the insurance purchased by A's family.
A’s parents expressed strong anger, saying, “We’ve seen delivery drivers running red lights so often and thought it was dangerous, but now that our child has experienced this, we can’t just sit still.” They stated a firm position, saying, “We want the driver to be punished to the fullest extent without reaching a settlement.”
The police are currently investigating the accident's details and have booked B for injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling.
