A delusional man in his 60s murders his son who threw him a birthday party with a homemade gun

Ten days ago, A, who is suspected of killing his son by firing a shotgun with a homemade gun from the 33rd floor of an apartment in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, was explained by the police regarding the details of the incident.

On the 29th, the Incheon Police Agency officially announced that A (62), who has been arrested on charges including murder, committed the act while in a delusional state.

According to the police, despite the victim’s family treating A as a family member and being kind to him, it was revealed that A had a distorted perception, blaming all responsibilities on his family.

A police official explained, "Despite the former wife saying 'he is the father of the child' and the son saying 'he is my dad', the suspect appeared to be caught up in a delusion that his family was isolating and neglecting him."

In particular, it was investigated that A and his former wife maintained regular contact during holidays and birthdays, even though they divorced 25 years ago, and the family also provided substantial financial support to A.

Confirmation of murder plan and intent for additional killings

The police investigation found that A had planned and prepared for the crime since August of last year.

A claimed during police questioning that "the other family members conspired to set me up," but the police determined that he actually committed the crime while being caught up in his own delusion.

Even more shocking is the fact that A intended to kill not only his son B (33, deceased), but also four others present at the scene: his daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and a friend of his daughter-in-law (a foreign tutor).

A police official stated, "A entered the scene with four barrels and 15 bullets, and while pursuing the fleeing daughter-in-law's friend, he attempted to fire his weapon." He added, "It appears he intended to kill everyone to prevent them from reporting by aiming the gun at the other family members inside the house and telling them 'come here.'"

Additionally, 15 flammable materials, including a bottle of thinner and a detergent container, as well as ignition devices, were found at A’s residence in Dobong-gu, Seoul, with a timer set to ignite at noon on the day after the murder, the 21st.

The police stated they are considering applying additional charges related to the use of explosives for A's act of installing homemade explosives in his home.
