Seoul Apartment Jeonse Deposit of 650 Million Won in Cash… 'Daddy Chance' Controversy
The nominee for the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Kim Yoon-deok, is at the center of a 'daddy chance' controversy regarding his provision of a cash support of 650 million won for his eldest daughter's apartment jeonse deposit.

During the confirmation hearing for Kim on the 29th, Rep. Bae Jun-young of the People Power Party questioned, "If you provide hundreds of millions of won in jeonse deposit for your own child while regulating loans for ordinary citizens and actual users, who would empathize with that?"
Kim responded, "I have no choice but to say that," and added, "I am humbly thinking about that aspect."

He further explained, "When my daughter said she wanted to be independent and get a job, my second daughter was preparing for employment, and my youngest daughter was on a leave of absence," stating, "The three daughters were in a position to live in Seoul."
Additionally, he clarified, "In the property declaration process, I have a claim against my eldest daughter, and my eldest daughter has a debt to me," affirming, "It is correct that I lent her money."
In response, Rep. Bae said, "People who need to live in Seoul are not just the candidate's daughter, but everyone in the same situation," pointing out, "It will be hard to gain the empathy of young people with such an explanation."

On that day, Rep. Kim Jong-yang of the People Power Party criticized, "Either the property registration was falsified or the financial transaction was disguised to evade gift tax."
Kim acknowledged part of this, stating, "It is clear that there is an issue on my part that the claim I have against my eldest daughter and the debt she has to me were not accurately reported in the National Assembly member property declaration process."
He also responded affirmatively when asked if he agreed with First Vice Minister Lee Sang-kyung's assessment that "the Daejangdong incident is a model case for the recovery of public interest."
