50s Man Dressed as a Woman Goes Nationwide to Dine and Dash, Sent to Prosecutor

A 50-year-old man in drag has been sent to the prosecution for fraud after dining and dashing at restaurants across the country.

The Daejeon Eastern Police Station reported that a 50-year-old man, referred to as A, who was arrested on fraud charges, is accused of committing dine-and-dash and financial scams in Daejeon, Cheonan, and Gyeonggi Province from October of last year to recent times.

A caused approximately 5.7 million won in damages over a total of 15 incidents.

Standing at 170 cm tall with a slender build, A had long permed hair and dressed femininely. He approached the victims as if he were a woman, building rapport with them and even altering his voice to deceive them.

Most victims were elderly women who treated A favorably, believing he was also a woman. They did not realize he was a man until they reported him to the police.

The police received a report from a restaurant owner in Dong-gu, Daejeon, and identified A through CCTV footage, leading to his arrest.

Investigations revealed that A was a habitual fraudster with dozens of previous fraud convictions. He had committed his crimes shortly after being released from prison for fraud offenses and had evaded police by staying at various lodging establishments without a fixed residence.

A police official stated, "It seems he exploited the fact that small-scale victims often do not report minor fraud cases. We urge people to be cautious when engaging in financial transactions with individuals of uncertain identity and to report any incidents immediately by calling 112."
