50-Year-Old Professional Man Conceals AIDS Infection and Exploits Minors
A shocking sexual crime case has been concluded at the Gwangju District Court. The prosecution has requested a 10-year prison sentence for A, a 50-year-old professional, who concealed his AIDS infection and committed sexual crimes against youth.
10-Year Imprisonment Requested
According to the legal community on the 25th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Court (Judge Kim Song-hyun) held the concluding trial for A (50), who has been indicted and detained on charges including statutory rape of minors.
A had previously received a requested sentence of 5 years during the concluding trial on March 5. However, due to additional charges related to child sexual exploitation that were later referred by investigative agencies, the prosecution requested a 10-year prison sentence on that day.

Repeated Sexual Exploitation of Minors Despite Past Convictions
Previously, A was indicted for sexual abuse against female students under the age of 16 whom he had met through a chat app last July. He was accused of luring minors for sexual activities and providing monetary compensation or engaging in prostitution.
The prosecution pointed out that A repeatedly committed sexual crimes against middle school girls under 16 over an extended period through the chat app, and despite knowing of his AIDS infection, he concealed it and had unprotected sexual intercourse, thus posing a risk of spreading the infectious disease.
A's AIDS infection was reportedly discovered by chance during the investigation. While being interrogated, he requested "to bring my hypertension and diabetes medication," which led to the revelation of his sexually transmitted infection.

The prosecution emphasized that A had multiple histories of sexual offenses against minors in the past but continued to commit these crimes.
The Gwangju Women's Human Rights Organization has called for severe punishment, stating, "A committed sexual crimes against children and adolescents in 2011 and 2016, but he was not subjected to strict penalties, leading to his recidivism."
The prosecution has requested a 10-year prison sentence for A, along with a 10-year restriction on employment in child and youth institutions, a 6-year electronic monitoring order, and 5 years of probation. They also argued that additional measures, such as prohibiting access to children's protection zones and restricting alcohol consumption, are necessary.
A has acknowledged all related charges. However, his lawyer reportedly argued, "Considering that there was no violence against the victims, the prosecution's request is somewhat excessive."
A's sentencing trial is scheduled to be held on August 22 in the morning.
