“30s Spreads False Information About Jeju Air Passenger Plane Disaster… Family of Victim Avoids Punishment with ‘Mercy’”

**Muan Jeju Air Tragedy Related to Dissemination of False Information**

A man in his 30s who spread false information online about the representative of the bereaved families related to the Jeju Air passenger plane tragedy has avoided legal punishment due to the leniency of the victims' families.

This incident has drawn attention as an example of how the dissemination of false information online can cause secondary harm to victims and their families.

According to the legal community, the chief judge of the 17th Criminal Division of the Busan District Court, Mok Myung-kyun, dismissed the case against Mr. A (in his 30s) on the 21st for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation).

This dismissal was due to the victim, Mr. B, expressing that he did not wish to see Mr. A punished.

According to the prosecution's claims, Mr. A posted false information about Mr. B, who is not only a victim but also the representative of the bereaved families association, on an online community from his residence in Yeongdo District, Busan, on December 31 last year.

Specifically, Mr. A wrote a post titled "Mr. B was not the representative of the bereaved families," and included a news article featuring Mr. B’s face along with screenshots from YouTube videos that supported this false claim.

Mr. A's assertions were confirmed to be false, leading to his indictment for defamation. However, last month, Mr. B clarified that he did not wish for Mr. A to be punished, resulting in the court's dismissal of the case.
