30s Man Wielding ‘Weapon’ at Ex-Girlfriend… Stalked Her with “168 Calls and 400 Messages” Before the Crime

Attempted Murder in Ulsan Hospital Parking Lot Reveals Stalking History

A man in his 30s, who attacked a woman in her 20s with a weapon in a hospital parking lot in Ulsan, has been found to have persistently stalked the victim by contacting her hundreds of times before the incident.

On the 29th, the Ulsan Police Agency announced that the suspect, identified as A (in his 30s), had a past romantic relationship with the victim, B (in her 20s), and that evidence of intense stalking behavior after their breakup had been confirmed.

According to police investigations, B reported to the police on the evening of the 3rd, prior to the incident, that A had assaulted her by grabbing her hair. During the investigation at that time, it was revealed that A had reacted violently after B's statement, "Let's stop seeing each other." However, since B did not want to pursue punishment, A only received a warning.

Persistent Stalking and Police Response

Despite the warning, A continued to harass B by reaching out to her repeatedly. On the 9th, he even went to B's home, which led to another report to the police.

What is particularly shocking is that within just six days between the initial report of assault and the second report of stalking, A reportedly made 168 phone calls and sent 400 text messages to B. This amounts to an average of 28 phone calls and over 66 text messages a day, indicating a severe level of stalking behavior.

Further investigations revealed that A had also threatened B by throwing a weapon at her. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the police decided to implement urgent emergency measures against A, including a ban on approaching B and a ban on communication.

Moreover, on the 14th, the police applied to the prosecution for provisional measures to protect B, including a written warning (measure 1), a 100-meter ban on approaching (measure 2), a ban on communication (measure 3), and detention in a holding cell or detention center (measure 4). However, the prosecution only accepted measures 1 to 3 and rejected the detention measure.

Ultimately, A violated the bans on approaching and communication and attacked B in a hospital parking lot in Ulsan on the 28th, leaving her in critical condition.

On the 29th, the police applied for an arrest warrant against A on charges of attempted murder.
