30s Man Pretends to Pay with ID at Unmanned Store… Faces ‘Serious Crisis’ in Life

A man in his 30s was arrested for stealing from an unmanned store, revealing a pattern of habitual criminal behavior.

Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced that they had arrested Mr. A on charges of stealing goods from an unmanned store on multiple occasions, and he has been transferred to the prosecution.

Mr. A is accused of stealing frozen foods and snacks worth approximately 100,000 KRW from an unmanned store in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, 11 times between the 24th of last month and the 4th of this month.

He allegedly inserted an ID instead of a credit card into the payment terminal at the unmanned store, behaving as if he was making a payment.

Additionally, CCTV footage shows him making contact with a credit card to appear as if he was attempting to pay, only to cancel the payment or insert the card in the opposite direction.

Mr. A, who lived near the unmanned store, continued his criminal activity until he was apprehended by the police on the 15th, following a report.

During police questioning, Mr. A stated, "I stole to survive," and it was confirmed that he had a history of being sentenced to prison for theft.

A police official explained, "Due to the possibility of reoffending and flight risk, the suspect was placed under arrest."
