Minor Student Sexual Assault by Music Academy Instructor Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison
The Jeju District Court has sentenced a music academy instructor in his 30s to actual imprisonment for committing sexual crimes against minor students.
On the 26th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Jeju District Court (Chief Judge Lim Jae-nam) sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted and detained for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (molestation of minors under 13) to 11 years in prison. The court also ordered him to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and a 10-year restriction on employment related to children, youth, and disabled individuals.
11 Years in Prison

Mr. A is accused of molesting and sexually assaulting students under the age of 13 multiple times from November to December last year while working as an instructor at a music academy in Jeju City.
During the police investigation, two additional victims under the age of 13 who suffered similar abuse from Mr. A were identified, revealing a total of three minor victims.
Background of the Crime and Court's Judgment
During the trial, Mr. A's lawyer explained the background of the crime, stating, "The defendant attended church and was in a relationship with a pastor's daughter, but upon opposition from the pastor, the relationship ended. After serving in the military, he attempted to reconnect with her but was rejected, ultimately leading him to abandon his faith and dedicate himself to playing guitar."
The lawyer also claimed, "The defendant was merely reminiscing about his first love and fell into feelings of defeat, which led to the crime. It's regrettable to think that if he had socialized with his peers as an ordinary young man, he would not have committed these crimes."

However, the court pointed out, "The nature of the crime is poor as it involved sexual abuse of elementary school students who lack the ability to protect and defend themselves, and the victims have suffered considerable mental anguish due to this incident."
Nevertheless, the court stated that the sentencing was influenced by the fact that "the defendant acknowledges his crimes and shows remorse, and he has no prior criminal record."
This case serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness of sexual crimes against children in educational institutions such as academies and emphasizes the need for stringent punishment for sexual offenses against minors and the establishment of preventive measures.
