20-year-old father who killed and abandoned 11-month-old daughter sentenced to 13 years in prison

11-Month-Old Infant Assault Death Case: Father Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison

A father in his 20s, who assaulted his 11-month-old daughter leading to her death and subsequently disposed of the body, has been sentenced to a significant prison term by the court.

The Daejeon District Court's Hongseong branch (presided over by Judge Na Sang-hoon) sentenced Mr. A to 13 years in prison on the 8th for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes (child abuse resulting in death).

The court also imposed a requirement for Mr. A to complete 80 hours of a child abuse treatment program and a 10-year employment restriction in child-related institutions.

In the reasoning for the verdict, the court emphasized, "This case is undoubtedly a serious crime, and the defendant's culpability is very heavy, with a high potential for social condemnation."

However, the court explained that it considered factors such as "the defendant's acknowledgment of the entire crime and the lack of evidence for premeditated murder, as well as the defendant's intellectual disabilities" in determining the sentence.

Details of the Infant Abuse Death Case and the Sentencing of the Mother

Mr. A was indicted for the crime of killing his daughter by hitting her and throwing her onto the floor simply because she was crying and fussing last September.

Shockingly, it was revealed during the investigation that Mr. A disposed of the child's body in a styrofoam box located in the house's utility room after the incident.

The child's mother, who was also indicted in this case, received a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison, suspended for 3 years.

Regarding the mother, the court stated, "Her culpability is not light, but the crime was limited to the disposal of a body, and considering she has other children to care for, we took this into account in our ruling."
